Seattle Seahawks: 3 Bold predictions vs. Steelers in Week 2
By Samuel Teets
The Seattle Seahawks hold on for a win in Week 1, but they’ll face tougher competition when they travel to Pittsburgh in Week 2.
The Seattle Seahawks haven’t been a dominant defense since the prime Legion of Boom years, but it was still surprising when they were torched for 418 yards by Andy Dalton and first-year head coach Zac Taylor. The Seahawks did manage to sneak by with a 21-20 Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals at CenturyLink Field, but the Pittsburgh Steelers will prove to be a greater challenge in Week 2.
The matchup between Pittsburgh and Seattle will be one of the better games from Week 2. Both teams have extensive regular season success in recent history, even if the Steelers are coming off of a disappointing season.
Subsequently, let’s open up the door to three bold predictions for the Seahawks in their Week 2 matchup on Sunday.
3. Russell Wilson posts perfect passer rating
Pittsburgh’s secondary has been anything but stellar since Troy Polamalu retired. Even without Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady torched the Steelers on Monday night. He completed 24 of his 36 pass attempts for 341 yards and three touchdowns. His final passer rating was a 124.9. In Week 2, Russell Wilson will also have the chance to shred Pittsburgh’s reeling secondary.
Against the Bengals, Wilson completed 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 196 yards and two touchdowns. His passer rating was 134.6. Right now, Wilson’s career passer rating is 100.6, and he’s coming off of a season where he set a personal best with a 110.9 passer rating.
Wilson has always been good at limiting turnovers, which is why his career rating is so impressive. However, Wilson will have to increase his completion percentage and total yards if he’s going to have a shot at being perfect.
A 158.3 is a perfect passer rating. While that might sound intimidating, it’s achievable. Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott both posted perfect passer ratings in Week 1. Wilson is better than both of those quarterbacks, so he has a fair shot to post a 158.3 against a shaky Steelers secondary.
