The Green and White’s last playoff appearance was 2010. With a new head coach, can the New York Jets reverse their recent misfortunes?

Welcome to the first of our final three installments of our summer-long “3 Vital statistics for 2019 season” series. The first 29 teams were previews that focused on the club leading into the season. When it comes to the teams that that had the first three picks in April’s draft, the focus for the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets will be after one week of play.

Interesting enough, those three clubs each experienced different results last Sunday in the form of a tie, win and loss.

Last week, the Green and White owned a 16-0 third-quarter lead at home against the Buffalo Bills. But in their first game under new head coach Adam Gase, the club watched the visiting club score the final 17 points out of the contest for a stunning one-point win. The Jets forced Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen into four first-half turnovers but still couldn’t close the deal.

So it’s safe to say that the first chapter of the Gase Era got off to a rough start. But one loss does not a season make for any team in the NFL. It’s worth noting that seven of the league’s 12 playoff teams in 2018 went down to defeat in Week 1.

What do the numbers say about the Jets from a year ago and what needs to be fixed in order for the team to end their long playoff drought?
