4. Devin Smith

With Tavon Austin missing Sunday’s game with a concussion, Cedrick Wilson was activated off of the practice squad, leading many to assume that he would take up a role in the Cowboys offense. That, however, didn’t happen. Instead, it was former Jets first-round pick Devin Smith that stepped into a much more sizeable role and he made his presence felt.

Smith’s first catch of the day was a tremendously important one. As mentioned, the Cowboys and Redskins were in a bit of a defensive struggle early in the game. Late in the second quarter, the game was locked up at 7-7. That’s when Smith was sent on a deep post and broke free from his defender. Prescott found him in stride and the wideout did the rest to complete the 51-yard touchdown play.

It wasn’t just that one play for Smith, either. The oft-injured veteran actually finished the day as the leading receiver for the Dallas offense, hauling in all three of his targets for 74 yards and the aforementioned touchdown that gave the Cowboys control of the matchup heading into halftime.

When Austin returns, it remains to be seen if Smith will play a role in the Cowboys offense. However, he looks healthy for the first time in quite a while and clearly has the ability to make plays down the field. He could be an unexpected yet welcomed weapon in Dallas.
