17. Cleveland Browns (14): Play on Monday Night Football vs. Jets
Last week was about as ugly of a debut as any head coach could ask for. Freddie Kitchens was named the Cleveland Browns head coach this offseason after revitalizing their offense following the firing of head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Kitchens then was given a few more weapons as general manager John Dorsey went out and added Odell Beckham Jr. to the receiving corps. Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalize during their opening weekend and were embarrassed by the Tennessee Titans.
This week, they face a New York Jets team that’s been hit with the injury bug. Head coach Adam Gase said quarterback Sam Darnold has come down with mono and will miss time – starting with this contest against the Browns.
Cleveland should be favored, even without the Darnold news, but they can’t go into this one thinking they have it won. The fact is, the Jets have a good backup in Trevor Siemian who is capable of winning games, especially if he’s underestimated.
With all that being said, this game — and their entire season honestly — will be all about whether or not the Browns beat themselves. They were penalized 18 times in Week 1 and should they continue to play such undisciplined football, they will see all their preseason hype go down the drain.
