8. San Francisco 49ers (19)

Last season, the San Francisco 49ers headed into the year expecting to have some success. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan had made some positive changes which included them landing a quarterback they believed in as their face of the franchise in Jimmy Garoppolo. The former New England Patriots backup was 5-0 as a starter in 2017 after coming over via trade and had them excited.

He started out slowly as they were on the way to a 1-2 start when he tore his ACL, ending his first season as a full-time starter. Now after a long wait, Jimmy G is healthy again and has the Niners off to a strong 2-0 start. Not only that, but they had two convincing wins as they rolled over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 and followed that up with a run-away win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

What’s been most impressive has been the way they have been able to win on both sides of the ball. Their defense, which had some questions in the secondary, has made life miserable on their opponents. They also some of their young wide receivers like rookie Deebo Samuel get in on the action and score his first touchdown.

They now prepare to face a Pittsburgh Steelers team that hasn’t gotten off to a fast start. Should San Francisco pull that off and go 3-0, they just might make believers of everyone.
