1. Kansas City Chiefs (1)

Is it too early to give Patrick Mahomes his second MVP award? In two games, he now has seven touchdown passes and no picks while already amassing 821 yards through the air. At that pace, he would have 6,568 yards and 56 touchdowns. Clearly, he won’t keep up that pace but it’s a safe bet that he’s going to again be in the 5,000-yard, 50-touchdown range.

Making his play so far even more impressive is the absence of Tyreek Hill. With his No. 1 deep threat sidelined, Mahomes just started slinging it deep to DeMarcus Robinson (who had 172 yards and two touchdowns) and Mecole Hardman (61 yards and a score). There’s also Travis Kelce who brought in the fourth touchdown pass from the signal-caller as the Chiefs threw up 28 in the second quarter.

From there, they simply were content to get out of Oakland with a win, which they did despite only scoring in the second quarter. That doesn’t hurt a team when they allow just 10 in the first before shutting them out the final 45 minutes.

That’s where the Chiefs really worked to improve as they put a lot of work into trying to address the defensive side of the ball. That was the area that cost them a shot at a Super Bowl as they were unable to get the Patriots off the field in overtime.

In this one, they had three sacks and two turnovers which shows their work there is paying off. That’s the reason they remain the No. 1 team in these 2019 NFL Power Rankings heading into Week 3.
