Seattle Seahawks: 3 Standouts vs. Steelers in Week 2
By Samuel Teets
The Seattle Seahawks persevered through a fourth quarter push by the Pittsburgh Steelers to escape Heinz Field with a 28-26 win.
After narrowly beating the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, the Seattle Seahawks went on the road and took down the Pittsburgh Steelers in a sloppy 28-26 contest. For Seattle, Chris Carson and Russell Wilson both fumbled during the game. For Pittsburgh, Ben Roethlisberger was injured and not able to play in the second half. His backup, Mason Rudolph was intercepted by Bradley McDougald on a dropped pass. James Conner was injured later in the game.
However, despite the sloppy play and the two close victories, Seattle is 2-0. With every passing week, the team’s chances of making the playoffs will climb. The Seahawks have the 25th ranked strength of schedule, meaning this season as a whole won’t be so bad, but it’s still good to rack up wins early.
Before getting into Seattle’s top three standouts, Rashaad Penny deserves an honorable mention. The second-year back outplayed Carson against the Steelers. Penny carried the ball ten times for 62 yards, and he scored a touchdown. Having a backup who can come in and post 6.2 yards per carry is a valuable asset for a run-heavy team like the Seahawks.
Taking all that into account, let’s look at who stood out for the Seattle Seahawks in the crucial Week 2 victory.
3. Will Dissly, TE
A year ago, Will Dissly captivated Seahawks fans with hopes for the future. Unfortunately, the Washington product’s rookie season was cut short in Week 4 by an injury that landed him on Injured Reserve. However, Dissly is back and healthy. Now in his second year, the tight end had a standout performance against the Steelers.
Dissly caught all five of the passes that came his way during Week 2. He racked up 50 yards and scored two touchdowns. Dissly, who was originally drafted to be a blocking tight end, has repeatedly shown he’s capable of contributing in the passing game. Look for him to be even more involved in the offense moving forward.
