Seattle Seahawks: 3 Standouts vs. Steelers in Week 2
By Samuel Teets
1. Russell Wilson, QB
One of my bold predictions for this game was that Wilson would post a perfect, 158.3 passer rating. I was wrong, but my prediction wasn’t that far off. Wilson picked apart the questionable Steelers secondary and finished the game with a 131.0 passer rating.
In the close win, Wilson completed 29 of 35 attempts (82.8 completion percentage) for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball six times for 22 yards. While that number may seem irrelevant, Pittsburgh’s leading rusher only ran for 33 yards. That may put some respect on Wilson’s rushing total.
Wilson is often overlooked when discussing the most elite quarterbacks in the game today, but he is a top five quarterback in the league. His numbers aren’t always lofty because the Seahawks run the ball so much, but then there are games like the one that transpired this week. Despite being sacked four times early in the game, Wilson maintained his composure and went on to have a monster game.
I wondered if the loss of Doug Baldwin would impact Wilson early this season. That hasn’t been the case. Wilson seems to have bonded with Metcalf quickly and his connection with Lockett is as strong as ever. Wilson will need to be on the same page as his top wide receivers against the New Orleans Saints next week.
