We may only be two weeks through the 2019 season but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good time to look at five way-too-early NFL MVP candidates
As is the case with just about every NFL season, there have been a lot of surprises in the first two weeks of the year. In Week 1, the biggest shock had to be the way the Cleveland Browns were housed by the Tennessee Titans.
In Week 2, the big surprise was how the Atlanta Falcons bounced back from one of their worst starts to a campaign to upset the favored Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, the surprises won’t end there as there’s a lot of football left to be played.
Even so, that won’t stop us from calling a timeout here to pick out five players who are capable of winning the 2019 NFL MVP based off their performance so far.
Notable Omissions
The San Francisco 49ers made a move for Jimmy Garoppolo during the 2017 season and he was 5-0 in his only starts for his new team that year. Naturally, this led to a lot of excitement but he was sadly lost for the year to a torn ACL.
Now healthy, Jimmy G has his team off to a 2-0 start and if they go from one of the worst teams in the NFL to actual contenders, Garoppolo will be considered for the award. However, he’s more likely to receive Comeback Player of the Year unless San Francisco finds a way to take control of a very tough division.
Khalil Mack is another name to watch. The Chicago Bears edge rusher has just one sack so far but he demands so much attention that it helps everyone else on his team shine. It won’t be easy for a defender to win the award but this team looks completely different ever since he stepped foot in their locker room.
