Pittsburgh might not want him back in 2020

With Ben Roethlisberger now out for the remainder of the 2019 season, the Steelers are turning to second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph to step in and lead their offense. Rudolph, who threw 65 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Oklahoma State, has a great opportunity to emerge as Pittsburgh’s next longtime signal-caller.

The young quarterback still has a number of weapons to utilize in the Steelers offense this year including JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington, and James Conner. Rudolph definitely has the potential to pick up where Roethlisberger left off and help Pittsburgh’s offense continue to be one of the best in the NFL.

If the young quarterback is able to be successful this season, then there is a chance that the Steelers would want to move on with him under center in 2020 instead of having Roethlisberger return to his old role.

Pittsburgh has already said that the veteran signal-caller is going to do his best to play again in 2020. If Rudolph is able to do well this season, however, it might not matter if Roethlisberger is good to go.
