NFL Week 3, 2019: 5 Teams on upset alert
By Dan Parzych
4. San Francisco 49ers
Remember all of the hype surrounding the San Francisco 49ers last season as a potential sleeper in the NFC? One can only imagine how different last season would have been if Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t suffer a torn ACL early on, but at least the 49ers quarterbacks looks stronger than ever so far in 2019.
With San Francisco currently undefeated heading into Week 3, the team will face another tough challenge hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
A few weeks ago, this game would have been a lot more difficult for San Francisco, but with the Steelers currently winless, and recently losing Ben Roethlisberger to an elbow injury, this game could work to the advantage of the 49ers.
Then again, if the Steelers hit desperation mode with Mason Rudolph under center, the outcome for the 49ers could be the complete opposite.
When looking at how the NFC West is already shaping up, San Francisco needs all of the early wins they can get to keep up with the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, including Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.
If the 49ers aren’t careful, the Steelers could be in for that first win of 2019, and put San Francisco at a bit of a disadvantage heading into the final weekend of September.
