Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: 5 Bold predictions for Week 3
2. Minshew shows his inexperience
When Nick Foles went down for the Jaguars, everything seemed like it was doom and gloom for the Jaguars offense. A unit that was hoping for a big boost from the new quarterback lost that crucial piece. As a result, in came sixth-round rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew with little to no expectations, even if he possessed a Hall-of-Fame worthy mustache.
Stepping in for Foles against the Chiefs in Week 1, though, Minshew looked good. The rookie went 22-of-25 for 275 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, even if he couldn’t keep up with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense. Last week, he was solid enough as he went 23-of-33 for 213 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.
There’s no question that John DeFilippo isn’t going to ask too much of his rookie starting quarterback. As evidenced by his Week 2 outing, the Jaguars offense is going to look at a lot of things in the short areas of the field to give Minshew a chance to limit his mistakes. However, his strong start to his career will hit a hiccup against Tennessee.
Not only do the Titans have a strong secondary to stifle the Jags’ limited receiving corps but they have two great, athletic young linebackers in coverage with Jayon Brown and Rashaan Evans. With their ability to come up in those short areas and make plays, the Tennessee defense will force Minshew into two or more turnovers on the night.
