Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins: 5 Bold predictions for Week 3
4. AP can’t get Redskins run game sparked
Things most certainly haven’t gone as planned for the Washington Redskins as it pertains to their rushing attack in the 2019 season. They had hoped that second-year running back Derrius Guice would be ready to roll after tearing his ACL in the preseason as a rookie. However, he’s already out again with another knee injury, though he is expected to return at some point this year.
With Guice out, though, veteran Adrian Peterson — who was controversially a healthy scratch in Week 1 — got the start in Week 2. As good as he was for Washington when he was brought in last season, though, he was highly ineffective against Dallas last week, taking 10 carries for 25 yards. And even still, he is the team’s leading rusher through the first two weeks of the year.
As Trent Williams has been out of the lineup for the Redskins, their rushing offense has been absolutely abysmal. Their only way to move the ball on offense has been for Case Keenum to take shots down the field. And that’s not going to change for Peterson and the run game on Monday night against the Bears.
Against the Packers and Broncos, both of whom have talented running backs, the Bears have given up an average of just 68.5 rushing yards per game over their first two games. That spells bad news for a Redskins rushing attack led by Peterson considering how highly ineffective they’ve been thus far.
