24. Washington Redskins (23): Play on Monday vs. Chicago
Landover, Maryland will play host to ESPN’s Monday Night Football as the 0-2 Washington Redskins are hosting the 1-1 Chicago Bears. Washington hasn’t had the best start to the season which has to be a bit of a concern to them considering the struggles Jay Gruden has had in his tenure as their head coach.
Hired in 2014, Gruden has had just two winning seasons as he was 9-7 in 2015 and 8-7-1 the year after. Since then, he’s led them to back-to-back 7-9 campaigns and is now 35-46-1 all-time in the Nation’s Capital.
It hasn’t all been his fault as the Redskins did suffer an unfortunate injury last season when Alex Smith went to IR with a broken leg. With Smith still not back from his injury, Gruden has had to turn things over to Case Keenum while they groom Dwayne Haskins to be the future starter.
That could buy him a little time but he will have to show that he can at least keep his team competitive with his coaching alone. If not, the team might be inclined to see if someone else can get the best out of Haskins going forward. Finding a way to knock off the Bears in the bright lights of Monday Night Football could go a long way toward helping him in that regard.
