NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Daniel Jones ignites Giants, Packers stay perfect
By Randy Gurzi
28. Oakland Raiders (29)
After a win in Week 1, the Oakland Raiders have started to fall again as they are now 1-2 following a lopsided loss to the Minnesota Vikings. They gave up 21 points in the first half and managed just one touchdown of their own. From there, they saw the Vikings run it up to a 34-7 score before getting a garbage-time touchdown pass to Tyrell Williams.
For head coach Jon Gruden, that means he’s now 5-13 in his second tenure with the Raiders. This is a far cry from his 39-26 record during his first stint with Oakland. It has to be somewhat concerning, especially given the fact that the players Gruden moved on from (besides Antonio Brown that is) have all gone on to have much more success. There’s also not a great chance that they’re going to give up on him either as they invested a whole lot of money with the 10-year, $100 million coaching deal.
As far as hope for the future goes, the Raiders do have some young talent that they hope can develop. There’s rookie running back Josh Jacobs as well as defensive end Clelin Ferrell. There’s also safety Jonathan Abram, but he’s currently on IR after a Week 1 injury. They could end up becoming a good team if these guys all pan out, but this season could be tough for their fans.
