3. Montgomery ready to have a signature game

The Chicago Bears decided to ease David Montgomery’s into the NFL experience. He had only six rushes (none in the second half) in Week 1. In Week 2, he had 18 rushes. In Week 3 he had 13 rushes.

The positive is that he’s gotten more yards each week. He had 18 yards in Week 1, 62 yards in Week 2, and 67 yards in Week 3. Also, he’s caught five of his seven targets.

Montgomery was great at the end of the Washington game, using his legs to seal the game. The Bears kept feeding him the ball and he got the yards needed and bled the clock. He had 48 yards on the final drive that ended with an Eddy Pineiro 38-yard field goal that closed the scoring.

With those three games in his pocket, I believe that Montgomery is ready to have his breakout game. The Vikings defense has a bend, don’t break rushing defense. They rank 13th in both rushing attempts and rushing yards against, but rank fourth in rushing touchdowns allowed. Montgomery should test that this week. He’ll get to use his ability to escape tackles and to see open space. The Vikings will find out how difficult it is to knock him down.

The coaches raved about Montgomery’s ability and he’s shown some of it during the season. It’s time to unleash him now and have him put all his skills on display. The Chicago Bears are looking for their next great running back and David Montgomery could be the one.

Prediction: 20 carries for 106 yards, 1 touchdown, 4 catches for 38 yards
