Predicting the first loss for 8 remaining undefeated NFL teams
Kansas City Chiefs
Weeks 1-3: at Jaguars (40-26), at Raiders (28-10), vs. Ravens (33-28)
Anyone that was expecting Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense to take a step back after he won NFL MVP in his first season as the starting quarterback has been sorely mistaken to begin the 2019 season. Through the first three weeks of the year, Mahomes has been even better and is on pace for an even more productive statistical campaign.
One of the big talking points about the Chiefs coming into 2019, though, was the fact that they attempted to retool their defense. Letting players like Justin Houston, Dee Ford and Eric Berry go, they added pieces like Juan Thornhill, Tyrann Mathieu and Frank Clark this offseason to try and invigorate this unit. Even a slight uptick in defensive performance would make Kansas City truly dangerous.
Thus far, we’ve seen that from this group, particularly in their Week 3 win over the Ravens, who looked quite fearsome offensively in their start to the season. It’s clear that the Chiefs can score on almost anyone and may be able to get just enough stops to take them to another level.
Having said that, the Chiefs upcoming schedule is quite intriguing, going on the road to face the Lions, then having home contests against the Colts and Texans before going on the road to play the Broncos. Those are all wins for Kansas City in my book though. The week after, though, is not.
While the Packers have to visit Arrowhead Stadium, Green Bay actually can match up with Kansas City. The Packers defense is fierce with the moves they’ve made and should at least cause some hiccups for Mahomes and co. Meanwhile, if the Green Bay offense can get on track, they can exploit the deficiencies on that side of the ball for KC. In the end, the Pack will prove themselves to get the victory in Week 8.
