2. Savage notches another interception

The Green Bay Packers had two first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. With the first they went after a stud athlete and defensive line prospect in Rashan Gary. As the second selection was approaching, though, general manager Brian Gutekunst got aggressive and moved up to the 21st pick to get safety Darnell Savage out of Maryland.

Playing alongside free-agent addition Adrian Amos, Savage has lived up to the billing as a first-round pick to start his NFL career. The safety has 14 total tackles (13 solo takedowns) to start the season but has also shown a nose for the ball. Savage has three pass breakups on the season, caused a forced fumble against Minnesota in Week 2 and then grabbed his first career interception last week against Denver.

Savage now comes into this Eagles matchup where he could be called into action quite a bit. With DeSean Jackson out injured for Week 4 and Alshon Jeffery playing at less than 100 percent, the Philly offense could call upon tight end Zach Ertz and slot receiver Nelson Agholor quite a bit in this matchup. That means throwing Savage’s way.

There is nothing we’ve seen from the rookie safety to this point to think that he can’t handle being put in the spotlight, even in a tough matchup like this one. Savage may give up some yardage but he’ll also get the better of Wentz at least once on Thursday night, nabbing his second interception of the season and his career.
