Running Backs

Marlon Mack, IND (vs. OAK), $6,100: With Hilton on the sidelines, Mack should be the focal point of the Colts’ offense. He’ll have an occasional goal line touchdown vultured by scrambling quarterback Jacoby Brissett, but few backs in the league have seen the kind of volume Mack has received. For as long as the Colts continue to under-utilize pass catching specialist Nyheim Hines, Mack remains as safe a play as it gets at the running back position.

Leonard Fournette, JAX (at DEN), $6,000: The theme of this segment: Volume is King. Now that DJ Chark has established himself as a weapon, both Dede Westbrook and Fournette should start seeing more big-play opportunities. Fournette has been used almost twice as often out of the backfield so far this season as in years past, catching 4.7 balls per game so far. Expect the Jacksonville Jaguars to ride their workhorse early and often against the Denver Broncos this week.

Kerryon Johnson, DET (vs KC), $5,400: Johnson should have himself a game no matter what happens with Stafford this week. The Detroit Lions don’t have a dependable pass-catching specialist, and Johnson’s YPT (Yards Per Target) is somehow higher that that of teammates Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay. Johnson is in line for additional volume with Stafford’s back a question mark and should see plenty of targets in the passing game if and when the Lions fall behind and air it out.

Wayne Gallman, NYG (vs WAS), $4,600: Gallman will receive most of the touches in the Giants’ backfield due to Barkley’s ankle injury. The Clemson product is a competent and capable player who should produce in his role. He won’t threaten to lead the league in rushing this week, but he’s a nice value at his low price.

Chris Thompson, WAS (at NYG), $4,500: Speaking of great values, few running backs consistently produce as many DFS points for as little money as Chris Thompson. It is mind-boggling how low to the ground his price hovers, and with Terry McLaurin slowed by an injury, Thompson could conceivably see double-digit targets in addition to a large handful of carries.
