Working the fantasy football waiver wire is always crucial but even more so with the variables and byes present entering Week 5 of the 2019 season.

Four weeks into the 2019 fantasy football season, you might already feel like you’re out of your league. Whether you’re 1-3 or, god forbid, 0-4, things could seem quite bleak for your roster. However, don’t despair. Instead, you should be working the waiver wire hard to try and make the moves that will get your team back on track. It’s a long season and you can still recover.

In Week 4, we saw some disappointing players through the first three weeks finally show out, particularly with Nick Chubb and Leonard Fournette going off. And, for what feels like the first time in a while, there weren’t any debilitating injuries that really wrecked fantasy football owners moving forward.

Having said that, there are still players that have emerged that should be added if they’re available in your fantasy football leagues. These are your waiver wire targets for Week 5. (These players are owned in fewer than 50 percent of leagues on ESPN Fantasy.)

Quarterbacks

Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (43.8 percent owned)

Riding the Jameis Winston wave in fantasy football might be one of the most frustrating experiences owners can go through. However, the rollercoaster has been high the past two weeks with at least 22 points in each game, along with finishing as the QB1 in Week 4. Whether or not you believe it will continue is up to you and a worthwhile concern. But there’s the chance that he’s getting comfortable in Bruce Arians’ offense and is starting to thrive.

Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts (32.1 percent owned)

Through the first four weeks of this fantasy football season, Jacoby Brissett is the QB9. He’s averaging a solid 19 points per game and has topped 20 points in the past two weeks — even with T.Y. Hilton out in Week 4 against the Raiders.

The downside with Brissett is that he doesn’t have a ton of upside. However, he’s proven to have an extremely high floor and, if you’re struggling to get consistent points from the quarterback position, the Colts signal-caller might be the right guy for you.

Others Receiving Votes: Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (44.2 percent owned); Mason Rudolph (12.4 percent owned); Marcus Mariota (8.7 percent owned)

Stafford’s bye is in Week 5 so he’d be a one-week stash but he’s currently QB7 in fantasy football this season. Rudolph was strong against Cincy and could be worth a flier. And good luck guessing what you’re getting week-to-week with Mariota but he showed real promise in Week 4 with a 23.2-point outing.
