Round 2 (Dolphins Pick): Improve the secondary

The Miami secondary isn’t formidable, at all. Even with the talent that exists in corner Xavien Howard and maturation of Bobby McCain at safety. A contributing factor is the lack of pass rush which was addressed with A.J. Epenesa in the first round. Now it’s time to help Howard with a corner that possesses the same type of physicality.

Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell stands at 6-1, weighing 190-pounds with good length and is ideally suited for press coverage. In fact, Terrell excels at press coverage he has quick hands with long arms and a solid initial strike. At the line of scrimmage, he does a great job mirroring receivers displaying quickness and smooth hips when transitioning despite his height.

Terrell isn’t an elite run defender but he’s willing. Thanks to his ability to click and close in addition to his ball skills, he could develop into a hybrid weapon for Flores’ defense. If not, they have a boundary press corner.

Whether it’s Terrell or someone else, the Dolphins must take care of their secondary early. Free agency is an option, there are guys who can come in and play a hybrid nickel role and safety. Still, the Fins must take a guy that fits their system and maximize his strength. There’s no doubt the Dolphins front office has the Clemson product on their big board.
