2020 NFL Draft: 6 Prospects to watch in college football Week 6
3. Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
It feels like Justin Herbert hasn’t received the buzz he deserves. The Oregon star hasn’t had the spotlight the way you’d think considering his status as the clear-cut No. 2 quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa.
So far for the 2019 season, he’s thrown 14 touchdowns, completed over 74 percent of his passes and hasn’t thrown a pick. And he’s doing so without throwing to top 10 wide receiver prospects if you go by Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller’s latest rankings.
With that said, all eyes will be on Herbert as he faces California in primetime on Saturday night. How he performs under the spotlight will either help or hurt his status as No. 2. Herbert has tough competition with Utah State’s Jordan Love taking on LSU.
Herbert has all the tools NFL teams want in a quarterback. He’s tall, athletic and versatile as a passer. He has great zip on the ball and solid pocket awareness. Herbert has also shown growth in his ability to protect the ball and continues to show his ability to read coverage.
Tagovailoa may be the runaway lock as the No. 1 quarterback. However, if he can light it up this Saturday the way he has early in the season, he’d separate himself from the rest of the class.
