Seattle Seahawks: Studs and duds vs. Rams in Week 5
By Samuel Teets
Stud: Russell Wilson, QB
Wilson was just slinging it last night. There’s no other way to put it. The man was on fire. It felt like everything he threw would just float into a receiver’s hands. He completed 17 of 23 pass attempts (73.91 percent) for 268 yards and four touchdowns. His passer rating for the night was 151.8. The highest passer rating a quarterback can get is 158.3, which is considered perfect.
The superstar quarterback also showed off his best Houdini impersonation. As I’m sure any Seahawks fan is aware, Wilson gets sacked a lot. The offensive line isn’t great in pass protection, except for Duane Brown. Last night, the pocket collapsed several times and Wilson either snuck to for a short scramble or danced around long enough to find a receiver downfield.
I’ve gone on record saying that Wilson is a future Hall of Fame quarterback, and I think last night was a perfect example of why I believe that. His tape was so smooth, and he did absolutely everything he could have to win that game. By far, Wilson is the No. 1 stud from Week 5’s game.
Dud: Pete Carroll
There is absolutely no reason why Carroll should not have gone for it on fourth and one right before halftime. The Seahawks had the momentum. Wilson was completing passes that most of the league’s quarterbacks would miss. The run game wasn’t doing bad either and Seattle’s defense had just given the offense an opportunity to make it a 21-6 game.
Instead, Carroll decided to try and draw the Rams offside before attempting a 48-yard field goal, which Jason Myers missed wide right. That gave the Rams the ball at their own 38 with 1:34 left in the half and two timeouts.
Goff drove the Rams down the field and the team scored a touchdown right before the half. Instead of holding a significant lead at halftime, the Seahawks found themselves up 14-13. It all worked out because Seattle won, but Carroll would have had to answer a lot of questions about his decision if the Seahawks had lost.
