Green Bay Packers: Report card grades for each position after four games
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers are off to a hot start after four games. How has each positional group fared through the first quarter of the 2019 season?
It’s hard to imagine fans of the Green Bay Packers being upset with how the 2019 season has started. After winning three straight games to start the year, including a crucial Week 1 win in Chicago, Green Bay’s record currently stands at 3-1.
It’s been an impressive turnaround on defense from last season — led by newcomers Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith and Adrian Amos — and it could be argued the Packers are now a defensive-minded team. Or maybe their roster is just more balanced overall. Either way, we haven’t seen a Packers defense this promising since their 2010 Super Bowl season.
On offense, coach Matt LaFleur has implemented a zone-heavy running scheme, though the Packers have struggled to get much going in the running game thus far. Meanwhile, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has had moments of brilliance, per usual, but he’s also had some head-scratching throws. At this point, it’s safe to say the offense is still finding its way.
Overall, the Packers have had a great start to the season, especially since many considered them a fringe playoff contender heading into 2019. After a quarter of the season, not many people would have pegged Green Bay to have been the leaders of the NFC North through four games.
The Packers have a tough stretch through the next four weeks, which could be the defining part of their season. In the meantime, though, how has each position group fared through the first four games? Here’s a grade for each position group through the first quarter of the season.
