The Philadelphia Eagles are hefty favorites at home against the winless New York Jets but will they live up to it? Bold predictions for Philly in Week 5.

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone keeping up with the NFL that doesn’t think the Philadelphia Eagles are going to roll in Week 5 as they welcome the New York Jets to Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles may be the most dangerous 2-2 in the league but, to make matters more decisive, they are up against a team that’s winless and playing with their third-string quarterback as Sam Darnold makes his way back from coming down with mono.

The Eagles are 14-point favorites according to oddsmakers at home on Sunday. That’s certainly a sizeable point spread for a 2-2 team, especially when Carson Wentz, though he’s been good overall, has struggled against the spread at home throughout his young career. And with the Eagles being so heavily favored, there is the chance for a letdown game, of course.

Will that be the case on Sunday? Or will the Eagles step up and look like the potential Super Bowl contender many pegged them to be coming into the 2019 season? Let’s try to answer that as we make five bold predictions for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5.

5. Banged up secondary picks off Falk twice

The Philadelphia Eagles secondary has been troublesome, giving up a ton of yardage all year long and making them play shootout football. Things are even worse now with Ronald Darby, Avonte Maddox and maybe Sidney Jones set to miss this Week 5 contest. However, the backups in Philadelphia will have a big day on Sunday thanks to the matchup.

In the two games in which he’s appeared, Jets third-string quarterback Luke Falk has been fine but nothing special, throwing for 296 yards, no touchdowns and one interception on the year. However, he’s not faced pressure like he will against the Eagles.

From Brandon Graham to Fletcher Cox to a host of other players, the Eagles defensive line — even with injuries — remains a strength of their team. Pressure breeds bad decisions from quarterbacks, particularly ones who are both inexperienced and not that talented, which is the case with Falk. As such, the young quarterback will falter under the heat and throw at least two interceptions on the day.
