3. Opportunistic secondary

Make no mistake, there were times when the Green Bay Packers secondary got absolutely shredded by Dak Prescott and the Cowboys passing attack. At the end of the day, Prescott finished with 463 yards while Amari Cooper ended up with an incredible 226-yard day and Michael Gallup also added 113 yards to the cause.

Given those totals and especially as Dallas tried to mount a second-half comeback, there were times throughout the contest on Sunday when Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Adrian Amos and the entirety of the Packers secondary struggled. However, when they needed to make plays to either get command of the game or stifle some momentum, they were able to do so.

Green Bay’s secondary ended up intercepting Prescott three times in Week 5, matching his total through the first four weeks of the 2019 season. It wasn’t just about the picks, though, but also about when they happened.

The first came on the Cowboys’ first drive of the day when Dallas was driving pretty easily. Alexander came up with a tipped ball and set the Packers up for a scoring drive with a great return, spearheading a 14-point swing. Sullivan then picked off Prescott on the third drive of the game for America’s Team, again stopping an easy-moving drive.

Finally, King came up with a big second-half interception in the middle of Dallas’ comeback that momentarily halted momentum and, ultimately, made the Cowboys’ task too tall with the time remaining.

Yes, you’d like to see the Packers secondary be more of a lockdown unit and not get burned for close to 500 yards. At the same time, though, a good defense makes splash plays when needed and the Green Bay defensive backs did that in a massive way on Sunday.
