The Indianapolis Colts handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of 2019 in Week 5 but who were the studs and duds from the Sunday night matchup?

With the Indianapolis Colts traveling to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday Night Football in Week 5 to face the Kansas City Chiefs, the consensus was that a shootout was in order. And early on in the proceedings, things appeared to be trending in that direction.

The Chiefs kicked a field goal on their first drive, the Colts answered with a touchdown, which Kansas City then answered with a touchdown and finally Indy tied it back up with another field goal.

Plans for a shootout got derailed, however, after those opening four drives of the night. In fact, the two teams would combine to score 12 points between themselves throughout the rest of the game.

As surprising as it was for the matchup to not end up in a shootout, though, the bigger shock was the Chiefs. Undefeated heading into this Week 5 contest, Kansas City’s offense looked unstoppable in every sense. On Sunday night, though, the Chiefs couldn’t protect Patrick Mahomes and, as such, couldn’t find any rhythm on offense.

Subsequently, the Colts were able to control the action on the road, leading to a massively important 19-13 win for Indianapolis on Sunday night. The victory moves Indy to 3-2 on the year while the Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the 2019 season, moving to 4-1 on the season.

It was a strange game in primetime that did not play out how almost anyone expected it would. However, that doesn’t make the result or the performances count any less. Taking that into account, let’s look at both the Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs and peg the studs and duds from the Week 5 contest.
