18. Carolina Panthers (18)

For a while, it looked as though the Carolina Panthers were done. Cam Newton looked rough and they started out the season 0-2. Then, Newton was hurt and in came Kyle Allen. The former undrafted free agent has turned things around and led them to their third win in a row as they knocked off the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-7.

In the win, Allen was sharp but only threw for 181 yards — but that was because he didn’t need to do more. He was able to lean heavily on Christian McCaffrey, who put up 176 yards on the ground and 61 receiving — with three total touchdowns. That continues what has been a great season for Run CMC, who is making some history according to David Newton of ESPN.

"“His 866 total in five games is second all time through the first five games, behind Brown’s 988 in 1963 and ahead of O.J. Simpson‘s 861 in 1973. McCaffrey is the fifth player in NFL history to have more than 800 yards from scrimmage in his first five games.” — Newton, ESPN"

As for Allen, he too has made history as Newton pointed out how successful he has been in his first four starts for the Panthers.

"“Kyle Allen on Sunday became the first undrafted quarterback to start his career with four straight wins since Hall of Famer Kurt Warner in 1999, and he can thank Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey for it.” — Newton, ESPN"

Now at 3-2, they have some faith that this season could be a successful one. They also have to consider whether or not they want to move on from Cam Newton in the offseason.
