When Drew Brees was injured, the New Orleans Saints were expected to start falling apart. While Teddy Bridgewater is a capable backup, he wasn’t expected to do much more than keep them treading water. However, he had other plans.

Heading into this weekend, Bridgewater was 2-0 with impressive wins over the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. He continued to deliver wins this time as they knocked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it was easily the best game he’s ever played.

In his third start of the season, Bridgewater was 26-of-34 passing for 314 yards with four touchdown passes. He was on the same page as Michael Thomas all game, hitting him for 11 receptions which covered 182 yards and two touchdowns.

The crazy thing is, they still managed to win by just seven. Even with the offense clicking as they were, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hung in this game. In the end, it was a 31-24 win and the Saints are now 4-1. They’re still not sure when Brees will come back, but there’s no pressure to try and rush him onto the field as they’re doing just fine with Bridgewater — who is likely playing his way into a starting role next season somewhere in the NFL.
