1. New England Patriots (2)

The New England Patriots acted like a lion that just wanted to play with its food before devouring it on Sunday. Facing the disheveled Washington Redskins, they fell behind 7-0 early on as Steven Sims, Jr. ran a 65-yard touchdown in the first quarter. New England answered with a touchdown of their own but Mike Nugent missed the extra point.

From there, they had just two field goals as the score at the half was 12-7. Then, after blinking the Pats had gone up 33-7 and they were simply running the ball and trying to kill the clock to head into Week 6 with a perfect 5-0 record. They did exactly that as the Redskins, who were starting Colt McCoy, never made it interesting.

For New England, it was an encouraging game as Sony Michel had his best outing of the season. He entered the game struggling to move the chains, averaging less than three yards per carry. In this one, he was good for more than five yards per rush and allowed the Patriots to kill the clock without having to drop back and throw.

Things don’t look too rough down the road either as New England will host the New York Giants in Week 6, then they will take a week off before going to play the Jets on the road — a team they already beat 30-14. They’re easily in control of the AFC East and the road to the Super Bowl in their conference again will go through them.
