Draft Spotlight

Every week, I’ll dissect a college football player who recently grabbed the spotlight and what his future holds in the NFL. This week, I’ll be looking at an intriguing mid-round prospect.

Who: Lamical Perine, RB, Florida

What Works

  • Size (5-11, 221 pounds)
  • Balance
  • Patience
  • Power
  • Strength
  • Toughness
  • Vision

What Needs Work

  • Blocking
  • Breakaway speed
  • Isn’t great at anything
  • Never been feature back
  • Unproven pass catcher

The Scout’s Opinion

"Runs with a very determined style. Whether it’s looking like he’s shot out of a cannon or carrying defenders on his back, Perine is out to get the most out of every carry. But he’s not just some reckless player who is frantically looking for yards. Over the last season he’s become lighter on his feet while not losing balance and strength and his vision for running lanes took a big jump. He has the mold of a complete back. – Trevor Sikkema, The Draft Network"

Outlook: Perine has some admirable traits, but he’s not nearly as talented as some other backs in this loaded class.

Early Projection: Mid-round pick
