2020 NFL Draft: 7 Intriguing prospects from college football Week 7
4. Collin Johnson, WR, Texas
Texas fans couldn’t have been happier with Collin Johnson returning just in time for college football’s greatest rivalry game, the Red River Rivalry. The 6-6, 215-plus pound wide receiver makes life easy for his quarterback, Sam Ehlinger. After injuries kept him hobbled, Johnson was a welcomed sight against Oklahoma.
In the loss to the Sooners, he showed fearlessness, catching a pass across the middle then ultimately taking a shot that would knock him out the game. He ended the game with six catches for 82 yards while leaving an irreplaceable hole in the Texas offense.
Johnson brings a lot of tools for a top boundary receiver. At the line of scrimmage, defensive backs can’t press him as his hands are too quick and powerful. He works the middle of the field and excels with intermediate routes.
No, he doesn’t have elite quickness or speed but he does snap out of his route stems. He’s a terror once the ball is in the air. His length and excellent body control makes it so that his quarterback doesn’t have to make the perfect throw. When facing zone coverage, Johnson works it like a pro.
Teams looking for a classic boundary receiver that can and will run block will love Johnson. At the next level, he could work as a big slot in certain schemes. Johnson’s lanky build, strong playstyle, amazing length with an enormous catch radius is similar to former Steelers and Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress.
