Green Bay Packers: Studs and duds vs. Lions in Week 6
Stud: Jamaal Williams, RB
Returning to action on Monday night, running back Jamaal Williams remained in a timeshare with the aforementioned Aaron Jones. Unlike his backfield counterpart, though, Williams shined as he got back on the field. Even if Jones had a four-touchdown game in Week 5, Williams was the better player at the position for the Green Bay Packers against Detroit.
Williams took 14 carries for 104 yards on the night, running hard and with tremendous vision, consistently breaking off big chunks of yardage cutting through the Lions defense. For good measure, the BYU product added four receptions for 32 yards and a score. He was dynamic and impressive in his return, a real driving force for an offense that needed it.
Dud: Darrius Shepherd, WR
It’s worth mentioning again that the Packers wide receiver corps was quite depleted for this matchup. However, some fans in Green Bay had to hold out hope that preseason standout Darrius Shepherd would potentially step up and make an impact. He did make an impact but not in the way that anyone would want him to.
The rookie did record his first career reception but it went for just a single yard and he didn’t haul in his other target on the night. Furthermore, he coughed up a punt return early in the third quarter that gave the Lions great field position to take a 16-13 lead. While it didn’t prove costly in the ultimate result, it was a substandard showing from the young wide receiver/return man.
