Jaguars Trade Grade – Get: Two First-Round Picks, Fourth-Round Pick

Despite the fact that Jalen Ramsey has made it abundantly clear that he saw no future with the Jaguars, there have been times where it was uncertain if the trade would actually happen. The primary reason, of course, was the reported asking price of two first-round picks.

It’s not the fact that Ramsey is not worth those picks — he most definitely is — but rather the teams that would be willing to go all-in on Ramsey would not have great value in those picks. Ramsey was attractive to contenders who, by nature, pick later in the first round.

Thus, the mere fact that they got the Rams to bite on a deal that included the two first-round picks but also a mid-round selection in 2021 is a win for the Jaguars. Furthermore, the Jags may be getting picks that are more valuable than you might think as the Rams currently sit on the outside of the playoff standings right now.

Most importantly, even if obvious, the Jaguars get hefty compensation for a player they were ultimately destined to lose. If they’d stood firm and not traded him, Ramsey would’ve left in free agency and brought Jacksonville only a comp pick. Instead, they get a haul of picks that can help their future in a major way.
