New England Patriots (6-0) at New York Jets (1-4)

Monday, October 21, 8:15PM ET

I know there’s a sudden resurgence of intrigue when it comes to the New York Jets. Sam Darnold returned to the lineup, and they went from a winless pushover to taking down the Dallas Cowboys. It was an impressive performance — they absolutely deserve credit for it.

Okay, now let’s return to present day. The Jets are slated to take on the New England Patriots, who are having an otherworldly dominant season so far. They’re 6-0, own the NFL’s best defense and 9th-ranked offense, and have outscored opponents 190-48 through six games. Even for the Tom Brady era, those are eye-opening numbers.

Do you really think Sam Darnold is going to be the difference? I’m sure some folks will try to make the case that the Jets only lost by 16 when they played the Patriots in Week 3. Let’s remember that New York’s only two touchdowns came in garbage time, and were off a muffed punt and a pick-six thrown by the Patriots’ backup quarterback.

Yes, having Darnold will help. The Jets may even keep it interesting in the first half. However, by the time the final whistle has blown, the Patriots will own a commanding lead. It’s going to take a far more talented team to hand them their first loss.

Prediction: Patriots win 34-16
