Trading Rams(ey)

Before I spew about the Rams’ recent trades, let me just leave this tweet here:

Thus the life of a sportswriter. *sigh*

Anyway, as my tweet said, this is my third revision of this slide. As I was finishing up this week’s notebook, the Rams and Ravens sent small shockwaves throughout the league by sending Peters to Baltimore for Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick.

On the surface, this wasn’t that big of a deal. Though he’s averaged 97 percent of the team’s defensive snaps, Peters has not been the same since his Pro Bowler days in Kansas City. To be fair, the entire Rams’ secondary has issues, which makes it even stranger that they would ship off a known commodity like Peters, especially after placing cornerback Aqib Talib on Injured Reserve. He joins a stacked Baltimore secondary that includes Earl Thomas, Jimmy Smith, Brandon Carr and Marlon Humphrey.

Roughly 15 minutes after I finished typing those words, the football world gets hit with a Schefter-bomb. As I said before I scrapped most of this slide, the Rams traded Peters so they could trade for Ramsey. The disgruntled star defensive back has been the subject of trade rumors for weeks now, and acquiring Peters gives Los Angeles (or so they hope) the talented secondary they’ve desperately needed.

As for Jacksonville, they receive the hefty compensation they desired. It looks like a good deal for both teams now, though time will prove that statement wrong. Besides, I have a feeling the trade winds will pick up ahead of the Oct. 29 trade deadline. Other players who could be on the move include:

  • A.J. Green
  • Melvin Gordon
  • Trent Williams
  • Von Miller
  • Kenyan Drake
  • Trumaine Johnson
  • Leonard Williams
  • Chris Harris
  • Emmanuel Sanders
