3. Kris Richard – Passing Game Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach

One name that will continue to pop up as a potential head coach for Dallas is current passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Kris Richard. One of the coaches responsible for the Seattle Seahawks ‘Legion of Boom’, Richard joined Dallas last season and helped improve the defense dramatically.

He currently calls the plays on defense and serves as more of a defensive coordinator at this point than Rod Marinelli does — at least during the games.

Richard’s best feature is his fiery passion. He loves the game and understands how to slow offenses down. He’s also incredibly loved by his players and is often seen firing them up before games.

It won’t be long until Richard is a head coach and nearly got the chance this past season. He was a finalist for the Miami Dolphins job which ultimately went to Brian Flores. That may have been for the better as that team is in serious tank mode. And if Jason Garrett continues to struggle, Richard could be next in line.

The only thing that could hold him back is the regression the defense has shown so far this season. They’ve had a hard time stopping opposing offenses from sustaining long drives and the defensive backs are awful at creating turnovers.

With that being the case, the Joneses could decide to simply clean house if they do part with the head coach and bring in a whole new staff. If so, Richard would have to wait for his chance a little longer.
