Through seven weeks of the 2019 NFL regular season, the Minnesota Vikings are making a case for being one of the more dangerous teams in the league. The Vikings extended their winning ways in Week 7 on Sunday afternoon in a big NFC North matchup against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
Minnesota grabbed its third straight victory to keep climbing in the division standings, taking down Detroit, 42-30, in a high-scoring win. In the game, the Lions jumped out to an early lead in the contest, leading the Vikings 14-7 after one quarter. Minnesota was able to even things back up by outscoring Detroit, 14-7, in the second quarter to knot the game up at 21-21 going into halftime in Detroit.
In the second half, the Vikings put their foot on the gas pedal and didn’t look back en route to the big road win. Minnesota outscored Detroit 21-9 in the second half to come away with a 12-point win over the Lions.
With the win, the Vikings improved to 5-2 on the season and have now won three games in a row through seven weeks of play. Minnesota remains behind the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North, but remain ahead of the Chicago Bears and Detroit in the division nearing the midway point in the regular season.
The Vikings will turn around for a short week of preparation this week before they host the Washington Redskins on Thursday Night Football in Minneapolis in Week 8.
With the loss, the Lions dropped their second straight game to a divisional opponent after losing to the Packers a week ago. Now at 2-3-1 on the year, Detroit sits in last place in the division behind Green Bay, Minnesota and Chicago and will remain at home to host the New York Giants in Week 8 next Sunday.
