2. Allen Robinson has been great but offense’s struggles overshadow it

In the midst of all this negativity over the Chicago Bears’ offensive woes, Allen Robinson is having a great season. I can only imagine how much worse this offense would be without his play.

For the season, Robinson has 41 catches for 464 yards and three touchdowns. He is on pace for 1,237 receiving yards, which would be his second-highest total (1,400 in 2015). He already has over 61 percent of the 754 receiving yards he had last season.

Robinson is showing all the traits the Chicago Bears fell in love with when they signed him as their top free-agent target in the 2018 offseason. He isn’t speedy but he finds a way to get open. He uses his big body to shield him from the ball and has the ability to make a catch in traffic. He also finds a way to get open deep as well.

Robinson is the only offensive player who is dependable. That may be a problem, though. He and Trubisky have a rapport, but Trubisky sometimes looks for him too much. Robinson has made some catches on throws that weren’t on the money, saving Trubisky.

As a result, Trubisky has a tendency to just look for Robinson. I get that he’s having a terrific season, but if the other receivers are involved more he could have an even better season.

Robinson is getting the opposing defenses’ attention. Even though he’s on track for a lot of receiving yards, his average yards per catch is 11.3, the lowest of his career. If he has more space to work with that average jumps up and he’ll have a phenomenal season.

It’s great to see Robinson play at a high level. Many criticized him for not having the type of season a team’s top free-agent signing should have. He was still recovering from his knee injury last year but is now fully healthy. Now we see him at full strength and how good of a receiver he truly is.
