14. Philadelphia Eagles (16)

Sometimes, it’s better to say nothing. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was talking about his team’s upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys and said they were going to win the game and that would put them in first place.

Pederson later tried to say it wasn’t a guarantee he was making, and while he didn’t use that word, it sure sounded like one.

"“We’re going down to Dallas and our guys are gonna be ready to play … and we’re gonna win that football game, and when we do, we’re in first place in the NFC East,” Pederson said via Angelo Cataldi of 94WIP Radio"

That quote upset some of the players on Dallas, with DeMarcus Lawrence having the most to say — including reminding Pederson that he’s on the sideline and should stay there.

Surely he was only trying to instill confidence in his team following a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but it didn’t work. Philadelphia came out flat and even turned the ball over on their first two possessions — which came after Pederson won the toss and took the ball in order to set the tone.

Philadelphia is now 3-4, which is not what they were hoping for when the season began. Just two years removed from winning a Super Bowl, they’re struggling to find consistency on offense and their defense has been a mess — especially in the secondary.

Things don’t look much easier for them as they travel to Buffalo next week to take on the 5-1 Bills followed by games against the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots.
