Los Angeles Chargers: Studs and duds vs. Titans in Week 7
By Kamil Roy
Dud: Melvin Gordon
Though he notched a touchdown reception, it was a forgettable day for running back Melvin Gordon. Rushing for 32 yards on 16 carries, the holdout returnee simply could never really get any momentum going throughout the game, resulting in Rivers throwing the ball frequently. Even in the passing game, Gordon finished with negative receiving yardage despite catching another reception.
However, it went from bad to horrendous for Gordon in the game’s final minute. On two separate occasions, Gordon could not score. On the second attempt, not only did he fumble the ball (his second of the game), but it was recovered by the Titans.
Gordon’s return from his four-week holdout was supposed to give the Chargers a boost. Unfortunately, it has done anything but.
Dud: Mike Williams
Despite a beautiful 21-yard toe-tap grab by wide receiver Mike Williams, Williams is listed as a dud for this game primarily due to his limited impact on the field. Although he’s shown flashes of potential, Williams has yet to carve himself a role as a player who Rivers can depend on.
Perhaps it may be that Rivers should trust his receiver more and throw to him more often. Either way, both players must find a way to earn each other’s trust, not only for their sake but for the sake of the entire team and their season.
