Chicago Bears: 5 Quarterback trade options to save season
Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears
With all these quarterbacks becoming available, the Chicago Bears could decide to just stand pat. As I mentioned, they still have a ton of confidence in him. When reporters asked about a possible change, Nagy wouldn’t even acknowledge it. Trubisky is still their guy.
That’s not to say that Nagy doesn’t criticize the quarterback. He spoke at length about Trubisky’s bad footwork. Trubisky has the bad habit of not setting his feet and not turning his hips towards his target. That’s why on outs he is too wide and his deep balls sail.
If Nagy and the coaching staff feel that it’s a matter of bad mechanics, then they think they’ll be able to fix it. If that’s the case, they need to correct that in a hurry. He’s had that same trouble for three seasons so it’ll be difficult to change that in a couple of weeks.
At some point, Trubisky has to have his competitive nature kick in. No more talking a good game; it’s time for him to put it all together. He has the full backing of his coaching staff and of the general manager. We’ve reached the point where he is acting like former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. After each bad outing, he’d talk about having to do better but then he’d do the same thing the next week.
The coaches talk about how well Trubisky completes his passes in practice. For some reason, however, it’s not translating to games. He has to change that or else he won’t be around anymore, no matter how much the coaches like him.
Making a change at quarterback in the middle of the season is difficult. You need to find someone who can come in and fit the system. The Chicago Bears could decide that there isn’t anyone out there who could come in and do that. They might feel that they’re better off seeing if Trubisky turns it around. If he doesn’t, then perhaps they make a change in the offseason.
