NFL Trade Deadline 2019: 10 Players who need change of scenery
By Steve Rivera
8. Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers
Even Melvin Gordon knows he got this one wrong. The Los Angeles Chargers running back thought sitting out training camp and part of the 2019 NFL season was a good way to get a new deal. Problem was, the Bolts called his bluff. They even managed to not miss him a whole lot. Eventually, Gordon realized that his best course of action was to get back to work.
Even that hasn’t gone as planned. Missing training camp is something the Chargers running back mentioned as being part of his miscalculation, per the Los Angeles Times:
"“I know I won’t miss another training camp again, I can tell you that.”"
Since returning to the Los Angeles lineup, the Chargers are 0-3 and going nowhere fast. Gordon, who looked at the landscape of NFL running backs like Le’Veon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott, saw a payday for the two and figured he would be in line for the same. Ultimately, he wasn’t. And how things go moving forward with him staying in Los Angeles is something that remains to be seen.
It might not be a soured relationship between Gordon and the Chargers, but timing be what it can be, a new location to call home might not be the worst thing for Los Angeles and Gordon.
