5. Von Miller, Denver Broncos

The idea of trading Von Miller is raging in the Mile High City. Some say you don’t jettison a likely Hall Of Fame player, while others would argue otherwise if it helps the team get better via the draft. Both can be correct, but in Denver, there are some things you can’t ignore.

The Broncos are 2-5 and 1-2 in the division. They have Joe Flacco at quarterback and a head coach who looks to have been another John Elway mistake. Elway has issues on his hands, and as the general manager of a team mired at the bottom of a mediocre division for a while now, Miller is a player who can bring significant value to a team that needs a lot of help — especially at the quarterback position.

Miller is the goods, and there is no doubt about that. When he retires, the clock immediately starts ticking on his Canton induction. All of that is a statement of fact. So too is the fact this Broncos team is missing weapons, especially on offense, and that keeps Denver near the bottom of a division with only one legitimate playoff team.

Moving Von Miller would be a mix of unpopular and extremely smart. Miller could end up on a team that is on the brink of something, anything much better than what is happening in Denver. It’s a change of scenery beneficial to both.
