Los Angeles Chargers: Studs and duds vs. Bears in Week 8
By Kamil Roy
Stud: Melvin Gordon
Similarly to Ingram, this was not exactly a strong outing for Melvin Gordon, finishing with 31 yards on eight rushing attempts. However, he’s on our lists of studs because he certainly looked like a stud on one particular play.
On a first-and-10, Gordon ran through defenders and, just as he reached the 1 -ard line, he was hit by three Bears defenders. Refusing to go down, Gordon forced his way into the end zone. Not only was that Gordon’s longest run of the season, but it showed he still has the potential to make game-changing plays.
Stud: Austin Ekeler
As with Gordon, running back Austin Ekeler makes it to our list of studs because of one play. Interestingly enough, for practically the entire game, Ekeler was nowhere to be seen. He finished with only three rushing yards on three attempts and two receptions for 19 yards.
His touchdown, though, came off a short pass from Philip Rivers. While running, he made a Bears player miss a tackle before going straight to the end zone. Although this performance was nothing compared to his previous ones this season, Ekeler nonetheless showed that Rivers can still rely on him, even if only for one play with Gordon back in the fold.
