1. Eric Berry

This one seems to be the most obvious but clearly has the most risk associated with it. A former All-Pro, Eric Berry is on the free-agent market and wants to continue his impressive career. The problem is, his body may not allow him to do that.

Berry, the former No. 5 overall pick out of Tennessee back in 2010, has five Pro-Bowls and three First-Team All-Pro nods on his resume, but he has managed to play in just three games the past two seasons as he’s been battling a terrible Achilles injury.

He originally went down with the ruptured Achilles back in 2017 and worked his way back late in 2018 — as he continued to have complications. Berry did play the final two games of the season and was even in for one playoff game but was released ahead of the 2019 campaign.

Since hitting the open market, Dallas is the only team to have shown significant interest as they hosted him on a free-agent visit and even had him take a physical. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem satisfied with their exam and a pairing never happened.

Berry apparently suffers from Haglund’s deformity, which means he will always be dealing with pain. The question comes down to whether or not he can manage what is described as severe pain where the tendon meets the heel.

This clearly isn’t ideal but he did manage to play some last season with the issue. At this point in the game, Dallas could try and bring him in on a one-year deal with a low salary. Should he make it through the second half of the season, and maybe playoffs, he would be a huge upgrade.

The risk is there for sure but it could be of minimal consequence at this point and they really have little to lose. Especially now that they have to wait until the offseason to find a legitimate answer.
