Aside from the Falcons and Browns, has any team been more disappointing this year than the Bears? Following a 12-4 campaign in Matt Nagy’s first season as head coach, some people (myself included) had the team pegged for a deep postseason run. Unfortunately, Chicago has already lost as many games as they did all of last year in half the time.
I’ve already outlined why Trubisky has been an issue for the Bears, and Sunday was no different. Despite his surprisingly stellar final drive, Trubisky was 65 percent through the air with one interception and touchdowns. That’s not good enough for a former second-overall pick, let alone in a game where Chicago lost by one.
Speaking of that final drive, you have to feel for the Bears. After all of their kicking woes in 2018, it looked like Eddy Piñeiro was the solution. However, a missed game-winner from 41 yards out further clouds the position.
I get that a kicker should really make that kick, but Nagy did Piñeiro no favors by letting the clock wind down in favor of trying to get closer to the endzone. After the game, Nagy defended his clock mismanagement and showed little confidence in Trubisky in the process.
Considering the Bears have a strong roster held back mainly by poor quarterback play, the ship is slowly sinking for Bears’ fans who are likely tired of this mediocrity. Something has to be done before it’s too late.
