Can the Cleveland Browns make a late-season run? It starts in Week 9 against the Broncos and here are five bold predictions for that matchup in Denver.

It’s now or never for the Cleveland Browns. After a disastrous and highly disappointing 2-5 start, if the Browns are going to have any shot at making the playoffs, they need to go on a run. The good news for Baker Mayfield and the rest of Cleveland is that their schedule eases up in a big way in the second half, starting in Week 9 as they go on the road to face the Denver Broncos.

Yes, playing in the altitude is never a welcome thing for any team. However, the Broncos are just 2-5 in their own right and just put Joe Flacco on season-ending IR. That puts Brandon Allen, who has never thrown a pass in an NFL game, as the Denver starter. On top of that, Denver’s defense has not been as good as many had hoped this season.

But will the Browns be able to capitalize? For a team that has not been able to even remotely realize expectations this season, that’s not a given. Let’s see how things will transpire at Mile High by making five bold predictions for the Cleveland Browns in Week 9.

5. Chubb bounces back for 125-yard day

Nick Chubb was both a scapegoat and the most consistent offensive player for the Browns a week ago against the Patriots. His two early fumbles really stifled any chance at getting early momentum on the road. Having said that, Chubb still ended the day with 131 yards on 20 carries and that’s just how good he’s been as of late.

Chubb has topped 120 yards in three of his last four games and hasn’t been under 87 yards in a game since Week 2. And though the Broncos run defense has been solid this season, it won’t matter when trying to contain Chubb because, simply, it hasn’t mattered against any other defense the Browns have faced.

Freddie Kitchens is going to continue to feed his star running back and, while holding onto the ball this time around, Chubb will make that a smart strategy. At game’s end, the second-year back will have another 125-yard day on his hand, likely with a trip to the end zone to supplement his performance as well.
