Stud: Drue Tranquill

The defense wasn’t alone when it came to helping the Chargers offense. Albeit on just one play, the Chargers’ special teams shined on Sunday in Carson. On fourth down, linebacker Drue Tranquill jumped seemingly out of nowhere to block a punt by Packers’ punter JK Scott.

The block allowed the Chargers offense to gain excellent field position, later resulting in a touchdown run by running back Melvin Gordon to further cement a 19-point lead. Tranquill’s block also demonstrated his athleticism and the efficiency of the special teams unit as a whole.

Dud: Michael Badgley

Talk about bad timing. After trademarking his nickname, “Money Badger”, kicker Michael Badgley did not exactly play the part. Although he did successfully kick four field goals and two extra points, Badgley completely missed his last field goal attempt.

Although it was at the end of the fourth quarter, at which point the Chargers had already won the game, the ball missed and went wide left of the post. Perhaps he should have trademarked the name after a game where he completed all his kicks. Let’s hope Badgley’s play in the future can back up the moniker.
