1. Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama – Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are in a race for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. If you ask Dolphins beat writer, Omar Kelly and poll the fans, they want to “Tank for Tua” — for good reason. Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa is the type of player that changes the culture of the team. The term culture is tossed around sports teams often but it’s not something built in one season.

However, picking the players who embody winning makes it easier. The quarterback position, more than any other, is measured by wins and losses —for better or worse. So why not take arguably the winningest quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft? No, he’s not perfect but he’s close with a 29-1 record since throwing his first pass.

Tagovailoa’s football IQ is a glaring strength that earned him praise from draft scouts, including Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon:

"“Tagovailoa is seemingly elite between the ears, and that wisdom is valuable for the pros.”"

Physically, the 6-1 nearly 200-pound quarterback isn’t imposing. Nevertheless, he’s tough, though there are some durability concerns. Inside the pocket, he’s a magician who senses pressure. Despite him not being known for his running style, Tagovailoa has the ability to scramble in the pocket and make things happen.

Tagovailoa’s accuracy is second to no one. Every season he’s improved. He’s completing nearly 75 percent of his passes in the 2019 season. He hits his guys in stride with precise ball placement, putting the ball where only they can make the play. He manipulates defenders with his eyes and understands coverages.

Tagovailoa’s high-end NFL comparison is  Drew Brees in that he’s accurate, a plus athlete with a high football IQ and similar size. The front office in Miami has done everything to ensure they get their franchise quarterback; Tagovailoa is that guy.
